Meatballs – Italian Style, in the Crock Pot

Today, I am going to make my Italian style meatballs in the crock pot. Sometimes I just put them in a baking dish covered with foil and let them bake for a couple hours. Either way they are a great, easy meal that you can make while you are doing other things, like enjoying time with your family!

Here is the recipe you will need to make meatballs my way:

Ingredients

1 to 1 ½ pounds lean ground beef (I used 97% Lean)

1 Pound ground pork or bulk sweet sausage

1 cup fresh breadcrumb ( you can use dry breadcrumb, just soak in ½ cup milk first)

½ cup grated parmesan cheese

2 eggs, beaten

½ cup Milk

1 teaspoon each of: Salt, Pepper, Garlic Powder, Onion Powder, Oregano, Thyme, Italian Seasoning – Mrs. Dash

½ Teaspoon of Nutmeg ( It’ll make them go Hmmm, what’s that in there?)

Put all your ingredients into a mixing bowl and mix well by hand or power mixer until blended well together and moist.  Test how well your mixture will hold it’s shape by rolling a ball.  If it is too soft then add more breadcrumbs, or a little more water if it is too stiff.  Roll-out your meatballs to the size you require.  Here’s a tip, you could always use something like an icecream scoop.  If you use a scoop then finish off by hand rolling them.

Now put half your meatballs into the slow cooker and pour over a jar of your favourite Bolognese sauce.  But the other half of your meatballs in the slow cooker and cover with another is a jar of Bolognese sauce, stirred to cover.

Now set the heat to high for one hour, then turned to low heat and cook for a further four or five hours.

Serve with fresh baked Italian bread or pasta.

    Well, I got everything together, and today we are having meatballs.
    While collecting things, I thought Wow! I need to can some of these meatballs in my tomato sauce! I’ll be doing this for some time, since we use a lot of sauce, the meatballs will be a huge plus. Since it’s almost tomato canning time, I can add them to the sauce jars, and will also CAN SOME MEATBALLS ALONE, RAW PACK, and they will be ready for anything I decide to make with them. I just love new storing ideas. You inspire me
