Crock Pot Beef Roast – a Simple Meal

This is a great video showing a very simple way to cook a delicious pot roast in your slow cooker. There are so many different recipes that you can enjoy pot roast with different flavors all the time and never be bored.

Any beef roast however, each cut of beef has it’s own flavor. We prefer chuck roast or a rump roast. Any type potatoes will do and any size carrots are fine. Red onions are sweet whereas yellow or brown onions are not. Either will do. This can be done in a pot on the stove if it’s cover is tight or in oven at 350 degrees for several hours. The lower the temperature the longer it must cook. The slower the cooking time the more tender the beef. Don’t try to get it done quickly so this is good for a cold day to heat the house from the oven. I love my dutch oven which is black cast iron and more than 50 years old. They just don’t wear out.

How simple is this:
Piece of your favorite beef (rump or topside)
Carrots
Onions
Potatoes
Salt and pepper to taste
Small amount of corn starch to thicken the gravy.
Cook on low in your slow cooker for 8-10hr or 4-5 hrs on high.
The meat will just fall apart.

Try adding a few fresh herbs such as Basil or Rosemary

Comments

  1. looking to cook my first roast! I’m wondering how long she cooked those potatoes? Looks like they started later than the roast.

  2. @oiawwp She did!!
I cooked the roast longer since usually the meat takes longer to get tender. The potatoes need to cook in the broth on top or under the meat for 1/2 the time. If you put them in at the beginning place them on top of the roast so they don’t fall apart by sitting in the broth on the bottom. Hope that’s clearer.

  3. @oiawwp Know she’ll love it… go ahead and put the potatoes on the top and let ’em cook away.. they won’t get too soft if on top. I don’t remove the top if possible as it lets all that heat out and it has to start over. The moisture shojuld be enough to keep the potatoes full of flavor.. Enjoy

I just realized how many comments there are on this recipe. I’m sorry I hadn’t seen them and answered each one. I do hope your meal was as tasty as ours. I was asked about gravy. The secret of gravyt making is to mix flour or cornstarch with cold water first till smooth. I’d say 1/4 C. floor to 1 cup water. Then add the hot drippings from the meat and be sure to taste for salt and pepper.
